Lori McKenna, the Massachusetts songwriter behind such hits as Tim McGraw's "Humble and Kind" and Little Big Town's "Girl Crush," was named the Academy of Country Music's Songwriter of the Year. The victory makes McKenna the first woman to ever win the songwriters award in the 52-year history of the ACMs.

New Artist categories are announced ahead of the April 2nd ceremonies
McKenna received the news while performing during a special songwriters' round in Las Vegas, where the country music community has gathered for the 52nd ACM Awards and the Academy of Country Music's Party for a Cause, a series of concerts that benefit the ACM's Lifting Lives program.
Along with McGraw's "Humble and Kind," for which she won a Grammy for Best Country Song, McKenna has written tracks for and with Faith Hill, Angaleena Presley, Hunter Hayes and RaeLynn. As a solo artist, McKenna released her album The Bird and the Rifle last summer.
In three "new artist" categories announced in March, Maren Morris was named New Female Vocalist of the Year, Jon Pardi won New Male Vocalist and Brothers Osborne took home New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year.
The remainder of the ACM's awards will be handed out Sunday, April 2nd, during a live TV broadcast airing at 8:00 p.m./ET on CBS. Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley host.
